Mobtown Greaseball Pin-up Contest

The Mobtown Greaseball pin-up contest has been been a part of our show for 6 years. We're happy to support it, and have the support of the beautiful ladies who make it possible. We know that getting up in front of a crowd of strangers isn't easy, and that to do so for the sole purpose of being judged by them isn't something for everyone. For those of you that have the confidence to do so, our hats are humbly off to you. Having personally stood on stage at the Hotrod Hoedown years ago, I know first-hand what that feels like.

We've had 6 lovely ladies grab the crown and sash, and over the years have refined our contest to make things fun for the spectators and fair for the entrants. We'll never please everyone, but we take this seriously.

For the first 4 contests, we used the traditional format of "crowd participation" to determine the winner. The crowd really liked to participate, but what we learned over the years is that it was really hard to determine who was really getting the most "noise" from where we stood on the stage with them. We also realized that this format could allow contestants to "stack the vote" by bringing extra friends to the stage to yell for them. Our contest has NEVER been about popularity, so we decided to make it more fair by changing the system to a panel of Judges for the 2010 contest.

The panel is made up by a group of folks that really know vintage styling and the fashions of the 1940's and 50's. Some of these people are vendors, but none of them are directly affiliated with the Karb Kings or any of the sponsors of the contest. They are generally friends of the club and patrons of our event, but are generally outsiders from the general scene. We choose them because of their knowledge, impartiality, and because they're nice people that have the background to assess the entrants based on their overall presentation, and NOT based on anything ELSE.

If you want to win the pin-up contest, you MUST work hard to look as period-correct as possible. This means that you're wearing era-correct fashions, shoes and accessories AND have put a real effort into your hair and make-up.We want you to look like you could have been a pin-up back in the 40's or 50's. If you get up on stage with a sundress from Target and throw a flower in your hair, you'll be at a major disadvantage with the judges over the girl in fully-fashioned stockings and rag-rolled curls. These details are JUST as important as the details on a winning car... a car with lots of home-brewed ingenuity, fabrication and customization will ALWAYS win over a mostly-stock car at our show.

The judges are specifically instructed to look for these details, along with general stage presence and poise. This is not about who has the best boobs or best ass. It's not about who is the skinniest or prettiest, or who shakes her ass the most on stage-- it's about caring ENOUGH about the era to do it proud. We are passionate about these eras and want our Ms. Greaseball to honor them enough to do her homework.

Every year, SOMEBODY seems to have something to say about who won. You can't please all people all the time, and we aren't stupid enough to try. If you don't like the contest, don't watch it. If you don't win and think there was some injustice about that, you can either try again next year or never get on the stage again. The contest is FAIR and every winner has won it fair and square based on our rules at the time of the contest.

To those of you that have less-than-positive things to say about ANY of our winners, I challenge you to get on the stage next year to see what that feels like. And it you've been on the stage and have subsequently been a sore-loser, do us and yourself a favor to stay off of it in the future. We want real LADIES to win, not people that are jealous, catty, haters.

With all the above being said, I personally want to Congratulate this year's winner, The Lovely Miss Lori Lou. I'll be shooting her for Retro Lovely in the months to come and will be sure to share her photos with you.

For those of you asking, both show attendees and vendors, the show is on tomorrow--RAIN OR SHINE.

We’re doing everything we can to make the best of the potential for rain, but bear in mind that the weather forecast is just a forecast and still NO GUARANTEE. Two weeks ago, rain was forecasted for the Hotrod Hoedown and it ended up being a GREAT weekend.

If you are a vendor concerned about attending because of the potential rain, there WILL be a cozy indoor option for all vendors. We’re still working out the details as to whether this will be in the main (1^st floor) hall inside the Moose, or in the larger hall on the second floor. If we do decide to put vendors upstairs, we will do what we can to make this easy for you in terms of having a handtruck handy and giving you access to the lodge’s dumbwaiter to aid in moving your items up. Any vendor wishing to remain outside will also have this option since we know some of you are already planning to bring your own cover.

As the indoor vending situation develops, we’ll post updates.

The rest of the show will go on as planned. We hope that you’ll tough it out and come out for a good time. You can stay home, but you’d miss out on all the great things we have in store for you. The inside of the Moose is DRY and still way more entertaining than your house. : )

Pin-up contest RULES

Ms. Mobtown Greaseball Pin-up Pageant Rules

Ladies should be dressed in era-appropriate pin-up attire. You don’t have to wear “vintage” per-se, but you do have to dress the part of a 40’s or 50’s era pin-up girl. Don’t expect to enter if you aren’t dressed to enter. Our judges are looking for this!

Outfits should completely cover the wearer. Swimsuits are fine as long as they are of a conservative cut that would have been worn back then. No girls wearing lingerie as outerwear will be permitted on stage!

No “flashing” the crowd. Behave like a lady, not a tramp!

If you’re drunk, you won’t be participating.

No groping, grinding or making out with anyone on the stage.

If you break the rules you’ll be IMMEDIATELY ESCORTED OFF STAGE AND DISQUALIFIED.

So, what can you do?

Knock it out of the park with hair, make-up and wardrobe choice.

Rock some classic pin-up poses when it’s time to do your thing!

Bring some cute vintage props or accessories

Be adorable, sweet, coy and classy!

Our past winners won because they worked the crowd, had a great vintage look with attention to details and BEHAVED LIKE LADIES. We want our pageant to be the classiest around and the winner to be a great representation of our event. Take your time on the details and you’ll have a great chance of joining the many lovely girls that came before you in carrying the title of Ms. Greaseball!

Interested girls should stop by the Atomic Cheesecake booth on the day of the show to fill out paperwork and register for the contest. You must be AT THE EVENT and signed up NO LATER THAN 2:30 p.m. NO LATE SIGN-UPS WILL BE PERMITTED.

We will be doing something different this year to minimize the number of girls on stage for the final show. Each contestant will be photographed at the Atomic Cheesecake Booth, and the judges will narrow the total contestants down to a final 12 from these photos that will be called up to compete. Once those 12 are on stage, the judges will choose the ultimate winner, live-- before the crowning and sashing ceremony.

Girls will be judged on overall presentation, era-appropriateness of hair & make-up, wardrobe selection, and stage presence/poise.

Contestants must be at least 18 years old to participate, and must agree to the rules of conduct on the entry form.

The contest starts at 4 p.m. at the main stage on Saturday, September 25th. If you are a finalist, you'll be called to stage at that time.

Here is a little more info for all you out there:

-- We have secured the baseball fields behind the Moose for more show car parking. This has close to quadrupled our lot. We should be able to handle up to 1000 cars, so bring your friends.

-- Spectator parking is mainly going to be at the school next door. Street parking is available as well as at some various business around the area.

-- There is NO alcohol allowed outside the Moose building / Beer Garden. You are allowed non alcoholic drinks, so bring your coolers. There is NO glass bottles allowed either.

-- All alcohol is $3, no matter what you order, mixed or beer, bottle or can.

-- The Car Show opens at Noon. Show cars can start showing up around 8am. The Moose is serving "overflowing plates" of Breakfast starting at 8am for $5 till the run out.

-- For the Night show, there will be dinner plates available for $8/$10.

-- The Miss Mobtown Greaseball Contest will start around 4pm.

-- The Trophy presentations will be after the Miss Greaseball contest. Should be about 5pm.

-- Cover for both the Pre-party and the inside night events will be $10 each.

Welcome to our new location! The Dundalk Moose Lodge has opened its doors for the Mobtown Greaseball, bringing it back to Dundalk. The Karb Kings appreciates you hardcore hot rodders, beaters, kustom kats, and gearheads for running your rides and toting your junk to make it out to our show!

This event raises money for the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore's ZOOmobile. The ZOOmobile brings educational, entertaining and interactive programs featuring live animals to city and county schools, day care centers, senior centers, and community events.

The Karb Kings pride themselves in supporting local businesses, bands, bars and hot rod connoisseurs from the Mobtown area. Our goal is to bring the car kulture scene back to Mobtown and help it grow.

There are a few people the Karb Kings would like to give an extra special shout out too: Ed Sawyer of the Dundalk Moose Lodge for allowing us to "take over", McAvoy's for the Pre-party, Amy Feline and Coors Light, Mad Dog Graphics for the killer shirts, Atomic Cheesecake Studios, Mike Gilliam at Gilley's Catering, Professor Ouch for allowing us to twist his arm to emcee the Ms. Greaseball Pinup Contest, Bubs at Mobtown Originals for engraving all of the trophies and Vince Sneed for doing a great job on our program once again. And to all of our volunteers - thank you for your blood, sweat, flat tires and first borns!

We also would like to give a great big shout out to the bands that played at this years Mobtown Greaseball..... The Motorettes and Sasquatch and the Sickabillys for officially opening the Kustom Car show at the Friday night pre-party at McAvoy's.
